ACTIONS FOR THE PLANET

Investing in the future means doing today the things we’ve been putting off ’til tomorrow. This month, in honor of Earth Day, we challenge you to take one planet-friendly action that you’ve been meaning to do for a while. No more procrastinating. It can be as small as screwing in new energy-efficient CFLs or fixing that leaky bathroom sink. You might start up a long-overdue compost heap, bring a canvas bag along to the grocery store, or just spend a weekend roaming around the mountains. Feel free to think big: start a campaign to protect a local wilderness area from development, get an anti-environmental politician recalled from office, or give up all your possessions and go live in a tree. Whatever it is, consider this your friendly prod in the ribs. Seize the day and get started now. Then write us a story about what you did and what you learned from it. We’ll publish the most inspiring and interesting features here on our site.

Vote Nature

Nature. A little word that is integral to the way our planet functions. Yet it’s often not given the attention it deserves. We’d like to help change this, so we’re asking you to make your very own Vote for Nature. This could be as simple as saying you’ll be spending your Sunday afternoon exploring the local wetlands, creating a vegetable patch, or cycling instead of driving to work. Each action can help make a positive impact for nature, you could even make one different Vote for Nature each month and really help to give nature a voice!

Votes for Nature

  • I recycle all I can and am glad to see more containers being provided here on Tenerife where people can leave their cans, cardboard, paper, glass bottles and plastic. I use a reusable shopping bag and a stainless steel water bottle.

  • Keeping Monsanto genetically modified seeds out of Nepal. USAID and Chemonix are trying to introduce Monsanto maize seeds through an “aid” project.
The Nepali community is mobilizing to stop this and, as a long-term guest in the country, I’m supporting them in every way I can.

  • From trees, to water, to sand, to wildlife it is all apart of nature and that’s why i vote for nature.People don’t see things the way I do, I walk, I ride to get my self outside and into the world of nature. If it wasn’t for nature I would not live.

  • Nature from england, I Walk almost everywhere enjoy my nature walks with wildlife, natural sounds and smells of wildflower and trees, would take my handmade bag shopping, would ride my bike down by the river,i also study aromatherapy so i can make or buy natural products, i have always been in touch with earth when i first started walking, bugs, frogs, worms, snails, fish, ect:) where my first adventures, everything in nature is natural, everything in nature recycles.

  • A year and a half ago, I made the pledge to walk the 40 minutes to and from work every day. Through sweltering NYC summers, beautiful fall days, and incredible snow banks, I’m still going strong…and loving it!

  • I Recycle everything!!! Glass, plastic, paper!! I drive less, and turning off the geyser in the day is a must!!!

  • At the Planet Positive office we’ll be recycling all paper, cans and plastic. Also opening the windows in favour of using A/C, although there are some noisy school-children next door!

  • Remember to take my shopping bag along to get groceries…so I don’t buy a plastic bag and prevent adding to the plastic waste pile of the world!!!

  • I Got rid of my car five years ago and have found it to be truly liberating. In addition to being a better part of a sustainable future some of the other benefits are what I call the Saving Seven.
    1. Saving a lot of money on Gasoline.
    2. Saving a lot of money on car insurance.
    3. Saving a lot of money on car maintenance.
    4. Saving yourself from a fatal car accident! according to the world health organization 1.2 million people die in car accidents per year.
    5. Saving your heart, walking, Bicycling, and skateboarding improves your health, physique, and overall well being.
    6. Saving yourself the guilt of contributing to a destructive and irresponsible society.
And last but not least…. drum roll please……… 7. Saving our planet for our future and the future of our progeny.
Thank you one and all this has been a Mr.Nick Vote!!!

  • I will continue another 15 years bicycling as my sole transportation!
I will continue another 5 years cultivating my veggie victory garden in my front yard!

  • I just started a bike fund for myself:) I am looking for a cart for the little ones to go along with me. This is my biggest waste I make, driving every where. My goal is to have a bike and set an example for my children by actually using it!

  • I’m going to get my bike fixed so I can keep the car in the garage once in a while!

  • I’ll be ditching the pesky plastic bag for a tote

  • I made my VOTE FOR NATURE by saying good bye to my car last month and chugging along by train travel instead.
